Rating : 3.8 laurels out of 5 laurels.from Online Muses Review : Poem Review by Andrew Angus.
Vihang's poem "The End of An Affair" is a poem about a short love affair between a man and a woman..
The poet describes the woman as a gazal.
" She became a gazal in return
First silence is poetry than words. "
What is gazal ? . The gazal is a traditional poem in Persia as a sonnet is a traditional poem in Italy . Based on my research , a gazal is a poem consisting of couplets in Persian poetry .Pl ref ( www.ahapoetry.com ).
"My heart served in a clean plate.
I never knew that the life of a poet
could be cut into two with fork and spoon.
After our affair she discovered life"
What does the poet mean when he said - "Life can be cut into two with a fork and spoon"? Is the poet referring to two lives - one life with the wife and one life with mistress ? Is the poet saying that his life is painful because it is cut into two ?.
The poet's love is compared to a haiku , which is a Japanese traditional poem known for its short lines . The poet's love affair is short like a haiku.
is a tale of prose. I felt love as short as haiku.
A time to part. Let us kiss and depart.
Who offered to end the affair ? Did the man or the woman offered to end the affair ? It could be the man or it could be the woman .The male character in the poem received a letter of parting or break up by the woman .
"She left suddenly. After then the letter
returned with a song of parting ,
She specified , she wouldn't sing ."
The poet seems to be revealing the pain of loving a woman since his life is cut into two .
